Yeah like, I have been thinking about it bc my friend is an emercury slut and we basically infected each other with our otps. I used to dislike Mercury because of his smugness. There wasn’t much to his character aside from a rushed bit of backstory and this ever present smugness that made him look like a random sociopath to me (his beef with Yang didn’t really help either) Basically I used to look at him like a smug Adam (kinda). But then in V5 we started to see a different Mercury, we saw some emotion and that was enough for me to know he does care about certain things and he’s not just the “preset evil” charater like Adam, whom is a true psycho but we don’t quite know why even after his character short bc there isn’t a reason, Adam just turned out like that. So the fact that Mercury is showing some emotion and proves to us all that he does care about someone is not only points for emercury but it’s points for his character as a whole. No wonder I started to like him after V5 ended and this episode made me like him even more. 

Then in relation to his “partnership” with Emerald we need to consider that Mercury is a victim of abuse himself, and he never ever used Emerald nor he touched her nor he made her uncomfortable, the most he did was joke around with her in V2. Honestly considering Emerald is the very embodiment of the stockholm syndrome it is fondamental that she has someone next to her who can see through that and offer genuine support. So far Mercury is the only person who has done that. And like anon pointed out, Emerald returned this favor in a way since she never saw Mercury as a mere weapon or anything like that.

At this point I’m left hoping that Hazel adopts them and they all yeet themselves away from that shit
